Our Story

Indraloka Animal Sanctuary

Captain Soul is the latest in a long tradition of successful Goat Games captains of Team Indraloka. As in years past, The Goat Games 2024 promises to be rich with goat shenanigans never before seen. If you’ve spent any time with the goats of Indraloka, you well know their antics—full of playful spirit, wondrous curiosity, boundless energy, and more love and affection than you could ever ask for. When we thought about who could best represent Team Indraloka, Soul was the natural choice. Born at Indraloka not long after his mother Ramona was rescued from slaughter as a dairy goat, Soul has never known the harsh life of a goat farmed for food. He is loving, kind, and playful. He loves grapes, berries, and melon. And his biggest fan is Animal Care Manager, Ryan.

When you give to Team Indraloka during the Goat Games, you’re not just helping a grateful goat herd win a contest. You’re changing lives—saving them even. From goats to humans, Indraloka is a place for all. And Captain Soul wants you to know that YOU are the GOAT when you give.

You might know us for the thousands of animals we’ve rescued—abused, neglected, abandoned farm animals with nowhere else to turn who find a safe home at Indraloka, especially the delightful herd of goats who call this home. Maybe you’ve visited and connected with goats like Captain Soul, who was born here when his mom, Ramona, was rescued from slaughter. Maybe you’ve sent your child to summer camp and been amazed at the stories they share—stories that don’t include electronics but rather lots of time running outside, getting dirty, and galivanting with goats Franklin and Mira. Maybe you’ve brought your own beloved companion animal into the NEPA Rescue Veterinary Clinic for treatment. But Indraloka is so much more than a place of refuge for goats and other animals in need. It’s a place for you.

Life—no matter the circumstances—is hard. Even the happiest of humans experience traumatic events. Death of a loved one. Heartbreak. Violence. Illness. Each of these experiences leaves us with a choice: transmit or transcend. What the animals teach us is that even when it’s hard and even when you’re scared, you can move past your pain. You can learn to trust again.

Your support during the Goat Games will help support the programs that help hurting hearts heal. Whether it’s a mother brave enough to take her children and leave an abusive relationship, a family mourning the loss of their sibling to suicide, or sweet baby calves torn from their mother just days after birth—Indraloka is a place to heal. Your support means thousands of humans can visit. Hundreds of companion animals can get veterinary care. Countless animals raised for food will be spared the horrors of slaughter. Each of them will find compassion—all thanks to you.
