Our Story
The Humane Society of Hobart, HSH, is a small but mighty community animal rescue shelter serving our 70th year in Northwest Indiana in the same small 70 year old building. Despite our small building, in 2023 alone, HSH sheltered more than 2,500 homeless pets, and provided services to more than 1,000 pet families in need of resources and supplies. HSH sponsors the Northwest Indiana Coalition of Animal Welfare Professionals to engage with leaders in the community to solve the public problem of pet homelessness. 60% of the pets that came through our doors are stray pets from Northwest Indiana, with nowhere to go. 23% of the pets that came through our doors in are at-risk pets that were surrendered after we tried to keep their family together. 14% of the pets that came through our doors primarily came from local, municipal, animal control agencies with very limited resources. We work alongside local law enforcement agencies and partner with many local businesses to build and strengthen pet families. WE ARE committed to the pets in OUR communities. WE ARE committed to advocating for pets and pet families, locally in NWI. WE ARE committed to solving, not sustaining, the public problem of pet homelessness.
